A 2000 lb. package allows us to cut our packaging cost and increase production. By the time you load 8 tubs on 2 pallets and shrink wrap them, it costs close to $180/ton. Because of our higher intake levels, in order to extend the forage and bring in more nutrition, it would have been cost prohibitive, made a mess of pastures, and increased freight cost.
The best way to handle the big block is with a large loader, forklift, telehandler, bale beds, flat bed, dump trailer, dump truck, and 2-wheel carts all work if they are rated for the weight they are carrying.
The CRF Stack 2K Blocks were designed to deliver both protein AND energy at a level high enough to reduce some of the forage required for the animal. In several cases, the Stack 2K Block will deliver nearly 3 times the TDN of a cooked lick tub. Many low intake tubs are focusing on protein and not energy. In most cases, the source of protein in a cooked tub is coming from urea (NPN). The Stack 2K Blocks are a multi-source protein base that can include urea (NPN) on some formulas. Having multiple sources of protein allows for a better amino acid profile and improves forage digestion.
Depending on the formula, some of the blocks can be fed to all species.
1 lb. of CRF Stack 2K Block will replace roughly 2-3 lbs. of transitional forage. TDN, Protein, and intake levels of Stack 2K Blocks allow producers the flexibility of increasing stocking rates on pastures or extending forage in drought conditions.
They can be shipped on semi-flatbeds, vans, conestoga trailers, straight trucks, and convertible hoppers. We are working on options for railcars.
